On the road: SANDCamp!
As I write this, Friday's weather forecast for NYC calls for a high of 47 degrees and rain. For San Diego, it's expected to be 69 and sunny.
Hmmm.
This week, Mike (Caccavano), Joe (Caccavano) and Nicole (Lind) are off to San Diego for the four-day blow out that is SANDCamp!
Keep an eye out for them at the Distro Summit, Business Summit, and the camp itself.
Loosely-coupled module integration
Drupal often makes certain things so easy to do, that we as developers don't take the time to consider the alternatives. Lately I've been giving a lot of thought to the module dependency system and possible alternatives. The main reason for this is that dependencies create a more brittle overall system which in turn makes the code more difficult to maintain and re-use.
Scenario 1
Using HipChat through an IRC client with BitlBee
Here at Treehouse Agency, we love IRC, as does the rest of the Drupal community. Still, IRC ports are often blocked, and not everyone is comfortable using IRC. We've recently been using HipChat to set up chat rooms for certain new clients.
I already route most of my AIM and GTalk interaction through an IRC gateway using BitlBee, and I wanted to hook HipChat up to an IRC client as well. Here's a guide on how to do this.
