When The Department of Energy (DOE) sought to both improve user experience on its sites and reduce related operational costs, it looked toward Drupal as the platform of choice.  With Treehouse Agency as the development partner on an all-star team including Acquia, HUGE, and BlackMesh, the Energy.gov pilot project yielded a high-performance multisite Drupal 7 platform initially supporting eleven sites form the DOE network.

Project highlights include:

  • Easy content sharing between sites on the platform
  • Cloud-based hosting architecture
  • Data visualizations and mapping
  • Editor-friendly site implementation tools
  • Sophisticated workflows via State Machine
  • Inception of the Bean module (contributed to Drupal.org)
  • Creation of a Data Visualization API
